Rat Birthday Cake

Rat Birthday Cake for a Rat-Lover. She really loves and adores all kinds of rats...and wish she could keep a rat as pet.  Not sure if she managed to get one as a pet though..  I was on work leave last 2 days and managed to find time to make this cake to surprise her. :)

I had a hard time getting the face to look like a rat.  More difficult than I imagined it to be.  The first try my rat looked really weird..like a surprised rat..or a half-rat-half-rabbit. LOL!  Partly due to the fact that I ran out of colored sugar paste & icing..and didn't want to make more...so I tried to make do with whatever was left.  It looked so funny-weird that I couldnt stop laughing...and didn't help that my husband made all these jokes too that had my daughter and I in stitches. I laughed soo much that I couldn't continue. Next day, I woke up with fresh ideas and made some notable changes (and yes, I made more sugar paste & icing!) and finally the rat looked like a rat!..at least I think so....hahaha

I realised I only made 3 decorated cakes for 2014! Maybe next year I'll have more energy & motivation to make more.

Happy New Year Everyone! :D

Christmas Candle Cake

We celebrate my son's birthday on Christmas Eve with everyone in my family and also on the day of his actual birthday, ie on Boxing Day.  It's like a re-enforcement teaching (??) to teach him what birthday means and what we do on birthdays.  Not sure if he knows what birthday actually means, but after so many years, finally this year, he actually pointed to the calendar and asked me to make a cake for him. He doesn't talk much, so he just point to the date and said "Mummy, happy birthday, cake". Since he hardly talks, whatever he asks, I have to make it happen right?  :D

Christmas Candle Cake
I saw a lot of candle cakes on internet and I thought it would be a good idea to make it for my son on his birthday.
He likes to blow fire off every lit candle he sees (except his own birthday cake!..I don't know why...). Once I had to apologise to the staff in LadurĂ©e because he blew off all the candles there while I was picking out macarons!

A tall slice of cake! :D

This year, on Christmas Day, I made a simple light chocolate chiffon cake & whipped cream and got my daughter to design and print out the happy birthday banner last minute.

As always, he doesn't like it when all of us sing Happy Birthday to him.
But we still sing anyway..LOL!
